The design intention behind each poster was to use an object in order to completely read the poem. Each poster has its own unique design according to the use of the object. To understand a little bit more about why I decided to do this, you first have to understand more about the poems themselves.
Charles Simic's Object Poems is a series of poems each dedicated to a single object. At first glance, you would think the poem is nothing more than an object. However, it's a little less obvious than that. Simic's poems take ordinary objects in our daily lives and puts a gritty and grotesque twist on them.
His particular use of vocabulary shadows our initial use and interpretation of these objects. As you read through these poems, Simic reveals a more diabolical use or metaphorical identity that morphs the object into something other than its original state.
Following Simic's concept of interpreting objects in a different manner, for this design project I decided to use a Spoon, a Fork, and Matches to approach Simic's poems in a more physical-oriented way.
